MARCH TOWARD SOCIALISM

Sufficient blame can be found in both political parties for the financial mess in which we now find ourselves. But are we so blinded by our anger and so demanding of change, that we are willing to send a socialist to the White House, thereby changing our very way of American life?

We have been hearing recently that almost half of Americans pay no taxes at all. Does this mean that those individuals who are not paying taxes are living off those that do? I wonder who the half that pays no taxes is voting for? Obama, of course. To those people who pay no taxes, his vision of re-directing wealth from those who contribute to the national pie, to those who devour it, is immeasurably more appealing than John McCain's vision of allowing citizens to keep their money to spend and invest as THEY see fit, thereby creating jobs and encouraging a healthy economy.

Isn't it clear by now that we must give citizens an incentive to work and to produce, and that that incentive is the increase in their personal wealth and resultant standard of living? The only other way to give people an incentive to work and to produce is to create a government that would FORCE them to work and produce. We can look at the former Soviet Union for an idea of the standard of living that would give us.

When the hard-working, creative people of our society have had enough of seeing their money transferred to the non-tax-paying half of our population, what will those hard-working, creative people do? If they stop creating and stop working in this country, tax revenues will dwindle, leaving nothing to hand out to those who have become accustomed to government handouts.

Granted, legitimate safety nets provided by the government do and should exist for those citizens who find themselves in any one of various acute crises. But will people who habitually strive to live off the government EVER understand that governments, in and of themselves, HAVE NOTHING TO GIVE THEM? Some individuals seem to think that government is a sort of magical entity with unlimited resources. They must begin to understand that anything governments have in the way of money or other sorts of capital comes from the citizens who PRODUCE. It is therefore in the best interests of ALL citizens to encourage government policies that keep the workers and producers in the mood to work and produce. And we can't do that if we take the fruits of their labor from them in the form of higher taxes to enable the government to give that tax revenue to other citizens who the government deems are somehow more worthy of that money than the people who orginally earned it.

When enough major corporations have moved their operations (and jobs) out of the country to avoid high taxes, when enough people have little or no money to spend and ample tax revenues are no longer being generated, today's government parasites may very well need to find a new host.

So go ahead and vote for Obama. His election to the presidency, coupled with the recent government bailout of Wall Street, will send our country in a perilous direction toward socialism, perhaps one of no return.
